What is DNS?

DNS, or Domain Name System, is essential for translating easy-to-remember domain names (like https://www.connectreseller.com/) into the actual numerical addresses (IP addresses) computers use to find websites.
When you type a domain name into your browser, DNS servers across the internet work together. They start by asking the closest server for the IP address linked to that domain. This continues until they locate the authoritative nameserver designated by the domain owner.

Common Types of DNS Records:

  • A and AAAA Records: Connect domain names to IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, guiding web requests.
  • MX Records: Direct email to the correct servers for a domain.
  • TXT Records: Hold various information, including email security settings like SPF records.
  • CNAME Records: Create aliases for domain names, used carefully.
  • ALIAS and CNAME  Records: Special records for root domains.
  • NS Records: Point to authoritative nameservers.

ICANN oversees DNS security and stability, ensuring reliable internet operations.
